Jamini Roy’s animal depictions are one of a kind.
His strokes are definite and fierce; and albeit wild, his animals show so much tenderness and care. Their large eyes not only reach out to their infants but also to us viewers. It showcases how Indian culture all animals were given a place of love and respect, when culture still existed in this country, until it was ripped apart by all it’s invaders.
This time, I used some left over handmade paper from a workshop in Hyderabad six years ago. A close friend was in my mind as I journeyed across these postcards. She had helped me through much turbulence during that period. I dedicate this to her (Varsha Ramesh xoxo).
